Kogelberg

Ja, nou dat almal in die “holiday mood” is, is die postings maar skraal.
Ek ry egter nou meer en geniet dit baie.
Spent a week in Kleinmond last week and enjoyed once again, riding in the Kogelberg nature reserve.
Early in the morning it is dead quiet there and the mist hangs low and creates a fine spray on your body. The track has uphills, downhills , round stones, sharp rocks and absolutely beautifull scenery. Fynbos of all kinds ( including Proteas) as you ride along the beautiful Palmiet river. It took me just about 2 hours from Kleinmond to the end of the MTB track and back.
Entry is R 24,00. See Kogelberg Nature Reserve for more.
Of course, there are those who believe it is a rip off paying any money for a ride that is out and back and so short…!

What a ride!

Okay, so I paid my R90 about 2 months ago to do the Tygerberg annual MTB ride at Majik Forest.
Of course when I got there it was a muddy mess and they decided to postpone the event to yesterday. Seeing that I already parted with my bucks I thought I may as well go and take part. Although I paid for the long ride, I decided ( very wisely I realised later ) to rather do the 34km or did they say 30km?
Well, what a ride it was!
It started with steep cement road and then we were literally squeezed into a tight corner around the Durbamville Hills winery cellar building. From there a short downhwill and then…SAND! and lots of it.
Riding through the De Grendel estate is of course a privelege and the up and down and zig zag through the estate was great. Of course I knew that eventually we had to get to the tower and then it happended. That loooooooooong steep uphill.
I felt good being the only one on my bike while everyone around me was pushiong. That came to an end 2 thirds up the hill.
After the Endurin handed to me by Guy, all was fine for a while again.
The downhill on the other side followed by the awesome single track right through Majik Forest was just great.
Out of the forest and back through the winding roads through the vineyards and eventually ending back at the winery.
My cyclometer measured 38,5km although one of the organisers said it was actually 41km!
Well done to those who completed 2 laps. I know that there was a great number of riders who were planning to do 2 laps but fell out after the first.
I dont blame you, it was a great ride, but tough.
Well done to Christelle, Louis and the team.
I will be back next year!

If you can’t ride,then hike!

I will not be able to post for the next 3 days as I will be hiking on Table Mountain. The Table Mountain National Park has developed a new trail, the Table Mountain Trail. This is a 3 day luxury hike with excellent accomodation, all meals included and your bags gets portered…no bulky backpaks! Anyway as it is a client of mine, I will be joining their media hike with the likes of Out There, Getaway, etc.
I’ve never been much of a hiker so I am quite keen to see how this will pan out. No tents, or cookimg on litlle gas stoves though. Should be a “walk in the park!”
