about the Mountain Bike insert
I finally got to read it on the plane yesterday.
Nothing too exciting. One interview with Gavin Rossouw, well wrtitten and interesting. Profiles some 4 diferent rides and some equipment reviews.
All of the equipment reviews had international web sites as references and no prices.
I am sure they just want to get their foot in the door now that we have the Mountain Biker in addition to Ride and of course Bicycling themselves.
From what I have seen to date, I am not too excited. Maybe I can get some feedback from the editor to tell us what the “real” plans are for the future.

Did I say ONLY MTB magazine in the last post? Well, now SA has another MTB mag.The Mountain Bike magazine, brought to us by the folks of Bicycling. I bought the Bicycling today and got the free supplement. Once they sell enough advertsising I’m sure it will be a free standing magazine. This from their web site: Mountain BIKE – 40 pages of off-road info free, for now. How good it will be and exactly how much local content it will have, I can’t say. I will read the supplement this week-end and comment once done. You read it yet? Your comments are most welcome.
Great News
Mylene Loumeau, editor of the Mountain Biker magazine has offered MTBblog two 1 year subscriptions to their magazine, the only dedicated MTB magazine in SA.
So, 2 lucky people who submit there 2007 must-do events will stand in line to win these subs.
See Mountain Biker for more on the mag.
THE TOP 10 MTB EVENTS FOR 2007 ?
So, as the year draws to a close I started wondering which rides I’ll be doing next year. The ones I missed this year due to family commitments, bad planning and of course lack of training. What about those in the far reaching corners of the country?
Then I though how great it would be to have a list of TOP 10 must do MTB events for 2007.
Now this is where I need your help!
Please send me your top 1, 2,3…or even 10 events for 2007.
I will then allocate a vote to each and present a democratically selected list of Top 10 events with web addresses and contact details where possible.
Please click on the comment button below or email to: japie@mtbblog.co.za to add your events to the list.

Confessions of a Mountain Biker, Nick de Klerk, who did the 94.7 on Sunday.
94.7 was quite hard this year… Did all the training and then on race day I hit the wall in the first 20k’s. Pace was just too quick in my group and blew out early. Weather was crap too
But ended up having a nice slowish ride and enjoyed myself, got in just over 4 hours so nowhere near the 3hours 20 mins I planned on doing it in… Better luck next year I guess and that’s also the last time I try to stick with a bunch that are too strong for me too!
There was a large drop out of cyclists this year and quite a number of guys who did not pitch because of the weather, so only 18000 people finished out of almost 28000 entries.

sabie at last….
Yes, next year I will finally take part in the Sabie Subaru Classic MTB event on 24 February 2007. I will attempt the 70km. There will also be a 40km and a 15km,so no excuses not to take the family on a lekker Lowveld excursion!
See Raceday for online entries.
