That Tygerberg Ride!

Yip, Monday morning was a wet and cold one as the alarm clock went off at 6h30. But, as MTB goes, ride you ride.
So, out to Tygerberg in the rain all the way. Once there, the Tygerberg MTB guys decided to rather have a fun ride of 2 laps on the 12km track as the rain would’ve made the 30km and 55km routes impossible to navigate and still have fun. The deal: if you entered and paid, you will get a free entry for the next Tygerberg event. As they have spent time and effort to mark out the routes, I agree that we must still get the opportunity to ride it.
Anyway, come 08h30, all the “long route” guys lined up for the 2 x 12 km laps. I was quite excited at riding on the hills and the majik forest again.
Alas, 1 meter into the ride, my left crank came off! There it was, hanging onto my shoe! Ai, wat ‘n disappointment!
Nou ja, that was my riding for the day.
The mud made the 12 km a slow one and the first guys did it in 50 minuntes and they looked bad! Mud right up to the waist, bikes brown and tyres thick with mud!
Dare I say that I am lucky my bike prevented me from participating….?

Anyway, next Saturday we have both the MAST challenge, from the bottom of Tokai Forest to the mast, see Adventureworks and the Babilonstoring Hermanus MTB, see Raceday

Back in the land!

After travelling over 8000km over a 2 week period through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, I sure am happy to be back!
Saw a lot of interesting things! The most interesting was to see what a bicycle can transport: bunches of bananas, 2 live goats, one goat and one pig, to name but a few. Oh yes, I saw a whole door on the back of one bike and also whole bags of charcoal ( not the Pick ‘n Pay version )

So I couldn’t take my bike with…how sad.
What it means is no Karoo to Coast for me although I have entered already. Anyone up for a discounted K2C entry?
I will however be sure to be at the Tygerberg ride on Monday 25 September. Just spoke to Christelle of Tygerberg MTB club and she promised that it would be a great ride. More single track than last year and maybe just a little bit easier!

See you there.
