Missed it again!

After all those good intentions about doing the Silvermyn ride…I did not go! I entered and paid in advance and was all excited about it. Yet, on Saturday some strange stomach bug attacked me while in Kleinmond. I literally puked my lungs out. Suffice to say that on Sunday morning church was a far better option than 2 hrs on my bike. So, if you did it, please let me know as I am keen to find out how it went.

Silvermine Ride

This Sunday it is Silvermine time again. Okay, last time I did it a whole bunch of us got lost. The route consists of 2 laps of 15km each.Very tough uphill! Besides the uphill, it is a great ride in a beautiful environment.
One thing to note: LIMITED entries. They are very serious about this and will not let you enter once they have 300 entrants.
So, see if you can still do an online entry on Raceday. If not call Lynn on 083 231 2528 to find out what the status is. The race starts at 08h00.

see you there!

That spinning thing!

Is it just me or are you also finding spinning quite boring? For a mountainbiker I feel it is a drag. Maybe some-one can come up with MTB spinning…now there’s an idea.
That’s what I have to resort to in this weather. Haven’t done one in a while so maybe I will survive it. How people can do that 2 or 3 times a week I dunno. Maybe I am not doing it right. If you have tips, help me out please.

So, if the rain persists this week, that’s where I’ll see you, in the spinning class . (hope it is that sexy young FEMALE instructor this afternoon!)

A day off

Man, is it great to have a day off in the middle of the week. Dont get me wrong, I have a great job and can take time off virtually whenever I wish. The fact remains that it is great to see everyone taking the same day off. I went for a ride at Koeberg and saw 18 others through the cousre of my ride there.
Riding bike home via Melkbosstrand, the cafes and restaurants were filled with people, the beach parking was full and there seemed to be a genaral atmosphere of relaxation.
I sure did relax today and thank the women of South Africa for allowing me the day off!

The Stellenbosch Challenge

What a great ride! The weather was perfect, clear blue skies but with a crisp feel to the air.
The route was indeed great. With a number of long uphills, fast downhills and great variety of settings and scenery this must be one of the greates rides I ever did. Riding in a forest surrounded by mountains, just to descend into a farm homestead with green pastures, cows grazing and kids shouting encouragement was indeed a pleasure.
Of course I did not enjoy the mud. I am talking serious mud where you could only push or carry your bike, and then up to 10cm above your ankles in sticky, brown mud. Between the mud and the three storm drain portage sections, I dismounted about 10 times in total. Too much for my liking.
It does not help of course taking a brand new bike on a ride like that. Even more so if the brake levers are on opposite side to that of one’s last bike….!
Anyway, I enjoyed the ride and my bike thoroughly and will be back next year.

The results are available on the Pedalpower web site.

That first time…!

So, this morning I went for my first ride with my new bike. Hooked it up to the car and set off for the Koeberg Nature reserve outside Melkbosstrand.
The first ten minutes on the bike was of course very frustrating. Stopping every few minutes to adjust the tightness of the pedals, the height of the saddle post and the sadddle position. Once that was out of the way, I really starting feeling the effect of the great frame, excellent suspension, hydraulic break levers, disc brakes and overall riding pleasure.
Yip,I will keep it (was that not an option?)
So, now for the real test on Saturday morning in Stellenbosch. 60km on a new bike will surely be a good way to inaugurate it, mud and all…..
