Can anything good come from Koeberg?

In fact yes, it can! The marked MTB route in Koeberg is great for a relaxing ride in a quiet and protected environment. Sure it is not single track, but it beats cycling with my mountain bike on the road.
Ek ry ten minste 2 keer ‘n week daar. Dis net buite Melkbosstrand en mens gaan in by die Koeberg se hoof ingang.

2nd WP provincials

The 2nd in the series of WP XC and DH was held last week-end in Stellenbosch. The weather was great and lots of fun was had by all ( as they say ). In the elite’s Rika Olivier and Johann Potgieter won the DH and Jacques Rossouw and Sarah Muhl won the XC.

See the full results attached.
Ready for Dirtopia?
I am planning a day trip out there. Not sure whether to do the laps on Saturday or the enduro on Sunday. I’ll have to skip church and miss out on hot cross buns if I decide to do the Sunday ride.
Either way, see www.dirtopia.co.za for all the details.

That Jonkershoek Ride

What a great ride the Jonkershoek challenge was on Saturday. I have never been up that high in the mountain. The single track coming down was just great. Although the numbers were small the ride was great.
Having said that, there were some issues that I would like to raise. Firstly, the toilets at the picnic grounds where the event started was in one word; disgusting! Also, a number of people took a wrong turn and ended up doing only 25km instead of the 35km full route. Then there was the issue of timing and positions: What timing? What positions?

This made me think (again!). What should a rider paying for an event (R95, 00 in Saturday’s case) be reasonably entitled to when entering an event? I have come up with the following that I believe to be the minimum one should expect at an event:
1. Clean toilets
2. An interesting and hopefully challenging course / route / track.
3. Good course markings
4. Well informed marshals
5. Timed results.
I believe that water points, a cold drink at the finish and even a goody bag are nice to have but not essential.
Oh yes, please stop giving me 5 month old magazines and a bunch of cheap flyers under the guise of a goody bag! I am just not interested.
So, any comments on what else one is entitled to when paying to ride….?
