1 st Nationals
The 1st SA-MTB XC and DH nationals were held over the week-end in Pmb!
By all accounts it seems to have been a great success. 239 entrants in the XC and 93 in DH. That is huge and very encouraging.
See the attached list of winners in the different categories.
The next one will be at Sabie on 20 May.
I have just seen that there is a MTB race in Stellenbosch this week-end. The Pine Forest Challenge at Jonkershoek.
A 35km MTB race and then also an adventure race, trail run and fun MTB ride. See www.entrytime.co.za for more details. Sound interesting!

The Argus has come and gone…again!
Yip,it’s over. For those thousands of people who have trained for months to get a good time, for those tens of thousands who did not train at all and mostly for the thousands of mountain bikers who made that dangerous trek around the Cape Peninsula, I salute you. Now get over it and let’s focus on mountain biking. On Saturday 18 March it is the Jonkershoek 30km funride. I will be there to enjoy and easy ride through the mountains of Stellenbosch..
See you there.
40 degrees in WHAT SHADE?
Wow, what a day it was. The 5th Argus MTB challenge, I mean. 55 km (or was it 57 km?) and that 40 degrees temperature.
That uphill was a killer! At the max. heat and having to walk it up, I was ( seriously ) wondering about heart failure.
Anyway, I made it. I can’t say it was one of my best, what with the loss of my spare tube and toolkit at 24 km and then the flat at 48km and the 3km run with my bike before I got help! Thanks Riaan, no 154, I have your tyre levers. Don’t worry I will find you.
Any, I have a video clip of rider no. 100. If that is you, claim your bottle of wine from me by sending me an email.

Ja, ek het die saal gekry!
How good an idea it is to start using a new saddle just 4 days before a huge race I don’t know. I am still struggling with the position and angle. Either I go to a bike shop to have my settings properly measured or I just sort it out trough trial and error (and hopefully not too much pain!)
As always, I welcome any input and advice.
