Good news: see comments below by the organisers of the Tin Mine Challenge

Hi There,
In response to the clients’ comment on value for money re the entry fee’s for the Tin Mine, i would just like to state the following.

A) We take all comments and suggestions very seriously and to heart! We will revue every one of them, and make sure that we have an action plan inplace before the next event, within the scope of our ability to do so. I thank all of those people out there who have taken the time to at least e-mail or sms me with their comments, suggestions, complaints. Good or Bad we want to hear them or read them.

B) With that in mind, i must however make a small point regarding costs of hosting an event. There is a certain amount of risk involved in everything we do, especially when we are at the mercy of the elements, and people are prone to make last minute dec
isions about whether or not to attend a race.

There are races and there are races… and in many cases, people expect more for less. Yes i agree with this to point, because we are in a competitive industry. But at the same time, people aren’t just waiting to throw money at events, based on the usual pitches for sponsorship. Sponsorship amounts vary from one event to the next. In our case we had cost the event originally, with no sponsors. Which means that the event must pay for itself. Once our sponsor came on board ( cautiously i must add, so there’s no 6 figure numbers here) we adjusted the fee accordingly. There is a tremendous amount of behind the scene work which goes on, that i think many people just don’t realize or see. Most people assume that we have volunteers who help out… yes there are a few, but with regards to something like marshals, we don’t have volunteers, we are trying to create a professional and skilled unit, that will operate and be able to handle any situation that occurs. All of our Marshals are trained first aiders from level 1 to level 3. And we pay them accordingly, accomadate them and feed them. We’re not out to make bundles of cash so that we can retire, but at the same time, we are not out here to make a loss.

Having said all that, we are committed to providing value for money, and a superb event. We will be working very hard to make the next event more affordable to those with families etc. Please keep a look out on our website, for any changes that might occur in the next week.. www.heatadventure.com we have already made the descision to drop the entry fee’s to “The Mount Rozier Challenge” (14th May) for those that pre-enter.. from those that have already been advertised.

Pre-entry fee 80km =R100-00
Pre-entry fee 50km =R70-00

Late entries fee’s will stay as advertised, as per our brochure….. And we will be accepting late entries for this event… As per usual we will also have entry and registration the afternoon before..
Again keep checking for more info…… all those that have already pre-entered Round #2 at the rate advertised, will be re-imbersed the difference.

Best regards

The organizor

What’s the deal with these Macho roadies not wearing helmets?
I see it daily and it really gets to me every time!
You NEVER see a MTB rider without a helmet ( at least I have never seen it )
Is it about their hair or not having a helmet that matches their tights?

Either way, I think that they should be fined by the traffic department, Cyclicng SA, the FBI, CIA, KGB en die AWB!

Next time I see one, I’ll stop and make a citizen’s arrest! Feel free to do the same.

What a GREAT ride the Tin Mine Challenge at Zevenwacht was on Sunday! ( 22 Jan. )
The weather was just what one needed for that type of terrain. We all expected a 30degrees plus day but instead we hardly saw the sun.
Still, 55km gets to you no matter how nice the weather. The view was just great, riding through the vineyards. Some nasty uphills including a 400m one in the last km of the race ensured that everyone new that this was after all the 1st in the WP Marathon series.
Jacques Rossouw did it in a cool 2h27, rerig fanstasties!
The setting and organisation at Zevenwacht is always great and the prizes for each category made it worthwhile to achieve a podium position. Lots of lucky draw prizes including wine and a R 2200 crank was up for grabs.
After the ride, one could enjoy a Lekker bowl of pasta which went down VERY well.
Any complaints from my side? Yes! The entry fee. I don’t believe that I derived value for my R 120 entry fee. Enough said. I have passed my comments on to the organisers and will await their feedback before I moan too much.

Tried my hand at making another video clip or two again. You know these guys? Then email me at : mtbguy@mtbblog.co.za

How great is it to ride in the middle of the day?
Great knowing that you’re on your bike while others are at their desks, I guess.
Not that great when 2 o’clock on a summers day is tanning time for Cape Cobras!
Man, what a sight and what a fright I got. Still being on the mountain ( the one that looks like a table ) is always great.
Anyway,I tried experimenting with my cellphone video camera while going downhill. ( kids dont try this without protective gear ).I have attached the clip. Very short and quite boring I think.
My thinking: let’s see what you can produce!
No cheating though. Use either a video camera ( if you can afford to loose it ) or your cellphone and send me a decent clip made by yourself while riding.
We can then have a clip of the month as well as a clip of the year competition. I will aim to do one a week myself.
Please email to: mtbguy@mtbblog.co.za with your name and clip caption.

Happy ( and safe ) filming.

BTW, mine was taken going down the contour path from the blockhouse on Table Mountain.

Dead? NO!
Still on holiday? NO!
Started a blog and thought I’ll be adding posts everyday? YES
Found it easy? NO!

Well, that’s my excuse.
Still, I’ve been riding, planning my events for the year and dreaming of achieving some type of fitness level this year that I can at least be proud of.

Doing my first event of the year on Sunday 22 January at Zevenwacht, just oustide Kuilsriver, Cape Town. Should be a gruelling, hot and dry 60km.

anyway, that’s my story for now.

till….whenever!
